It's Spring!

We have been wanting to plant grass in our backyard for a while.
Previously half the backyard was all dirt and weeds.
Last year we started pulling up the weeds and realized our efforts were in vain if not attacked immediately before new weeds grew.
So we first killed all the weeds using roundup.
Then we used a rototiller on the yard to break up the ground.
We found so many things in the ground including, TONS of broken glass and ceramic, broken bottles, cans, marbles, wires, a toy helicopter, an old wrench, brick, metal pieces etc.
Trash can after trash can was empty each week with weeds and other waste.

Our parents Rick and Nancy came one Saturday last week and help us plant grass seed.
It was so awesome that they came to help because we got so much done in one day!
We first leveled out the ground.
Then we brought in a truck load of soil and spread that around.
After that we spread out the grass seed evenly.
Then we spread out a layer of nitrate manure mix on top to cover the seed and protect it.
We hooked up a couple hoses with an automatic timer set to water the seed four times a day.
We blocked off sections for flower beds and a sand box, so no grass will grow in those areas.

Week 0

We set up the watering system.

  1. Hi Natalie and Robert,

Your efforts will be rewarded in early summer with all of the beautiful plants and lawn you have planted.
Someday you will have a home of your own to mold into your own little world.
Enjoy, and thank you for sharing your photos and dreams with us.

    Love,
    Aunt Kathy and Uncle Eddie
